Lesson 8 The Australopithecine's

Propliopithecidae Aegyptopithecus Exhibit 1.
Aegyptopithecus dates from about 34 to 23 mya, or better known as the Oligocene period.  It could very well be the ancestor of Old World monkeys, however, it's teeth record display the Y5 molar cusp pattern comparable to those of hominoids.  All known specimens comes from Africa (Egypt).

Hominoidea Proconsul Exhibit 1.
Proconsul dates from about 23 to 14 mya, it is considered one of the "true" hominoids of the Miocene period with about 18 to 30 known possible genera.  It lived in East Africa when the world was experiencing warmer temperatures and geological processes were forming the earth's surface much as we know it today.  Proconsul had: a broad dental arcade, a large brain size when compared to its face, a Y5 molar cusp pattern, and no tail.
